A Lasting Settlement
Today, the Tierra Monte, Evergreen Hills and Sandia Heights North neighborhoods are coming together with one voice to oppose this proposed transfer of land in the Sandia Mountains.

For many long years, the Albuquerque community wrestled with the question of who owned the Sandia Mountains. Our three neighborhoods were intimately involved in this litigation as part of the Sandia Mountain Coalition and worked closely to negotiate the settlement that was ultimately enacted by Congress in 2003.
That settlement resolved the Pueblo’s land claim and established how this part of the Sandias would be protected and managed into the future.
We do not accept that the settlement was temporary.
People with very different lives and histories came together around the Sandias in 2003. Twenty-three years later, we’re still neighbors, we still all love this mountain and we still share the responsibility of taking care of it together.
