Script for Phone Call
“Hello, my name is _________. I live in_______. I’m calling today to ask that the Sandia
Mountains remain under US Forest Service management.
“The 2003 agreement between the US government and the Pueblo of Sandia exists in
perpetuity and offers a means by which to deal with issues voiced by the Pueblo such as
litter, road conditions, parking lots, and trail conditions.
“10,000 acres of public land should not be given away. Let’s preserve Wilderness areas and
keep Public Lands in Public Hands.”
Make it personal! The script is a jumping off point, but research shows calling campaigns are most effective when people share personal stories. Please be polite when you call, and do not make any negative or nasty comments about the members of congress, the Pueblo, or anyone’s motivations. This will not help make your case.

Post about the issue on social media.
Forward information to hiking groups, neighborhood associations, and community organizations.
Encourage others to make three quick phone calls to Congress.
The more people who understand what's happening, the stronger our voice will be.
VOLUNTEER
We need community members who are willing to help educate others and organize locally.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Talk with hikers at Sandia trailheads. Volunteer shifts are available every Saturday and Sunday morning. We'll provide flyers, talking points, and everything you need.
Help organize neighborhood outreach and community events.
Assist with phone banking and volunteer coordination.
Help with social media, graphic design, photography, or writing.
Research, administrative support, or other behind-the-scenes projects.
Bring your own skills and ideas—we welcome all kinds of help.
Whether you can volunteer for one morning or on an ongoing basis, we'd love to have you involved.
ATTEND PUBLIC MEETINGS
Public officials need to hear directly from the people who use and care about the Sandias.
When possible:
Attend Bernalillo County and Sandoval County Commission meetings.
Participate in public meetings hosted by elected officials.
Attend town halls with members of Congress.
Speak during public comment when opportunities are available.
Encourage friends and neighbors to attend with you.
